SALT LAKE CITY -- First-round draft choice Josh Smith scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half to lead the Atlanta Hawks to an 87-62 summer league victory Friday over the expansion Charlotte Bobcats in the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue.
Fellow first-rounder Josh Childress and free-agent Stephan Pelle each scored 12, while Rick Hughes and Royal Ivey finished with eight apiece for the Hawks in new coach Mike Woodson's first game with Atlanta.
"We had great shots," said Woodson, whose team scoring totals increased each quarter. The Hawks outscored the Bobcats 58-28 in the second half.
"The guys loosened up, took their time and ran the offense and things started to go our way. They did a great job of sharing the ball (the Hawks had 24 assists) and after one game, I'm pleased with their effort," Woodson said.
Maurice Carter's 15 points paced the Bobcats, who dropped their first game in summer league action after going undefeated in five games last week in the Minnesota summer competition.
