Five questions - Amy Cowman

Amy Cowman is a co-anchorwoman of WAGT News Today and also reports. She grew up in Charlotte, N.C., went to college in Charleston, S.C., and worked in Atlanta before coming to Augusta in September.

Q: You go on the air at 5 a.m. When do you wake up?

A: I usually get up around 2:30 a.m. or 2:45 a.m. I should go to bed at 6 or 6:30. But I'm stubborn. So, it's 8 or 8:30 p.m.

Q: Do they give you any special advice about news reporting early in the morning? Speak louder? Slower? More quietly?

A: Not really. People ask how you can be cheery and bubbly at that hour, and I say: "Look at the coffee pot."

Q: What's the oddest thing you see at that time of the morning in downtown Augusta?

A: The weirdest thing is that people are still out there. I'm coming to work in my business suit and they're coming out of clubs. An eerie feeling. I'm a little upside down. Oddly enough, on my last job I was a night owl.

Q: Most embarrassing on-air moment?

A: I have a tendency to get myself into trouble with chocolate stories. I love chocolate.

Q: When you're on vacation, do you ever tune in to see how sleepy your replacements look?

A: When I'm on vacation, I am not awake at that time of the morning.
