Wild sign free-agent defenseman



ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Free-agent defenseman Raymond Giroux signed a contract Wednesday with the Minnesota Wild.

Giroux split time last season between Albany of the AHL and the New Jersey Devils. He had three assists and four penalty minutes in 11 games with the Devils.

He also had 11 goals and 17 assists in 65 games for Albany, and was the team's highest-scoring defenseman.

Giroux was a seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1994 NHL draft. He's played in 38 NHL games with the Devils and the New York Islanders.

Terms of the contract were not revealed.
