Madonna imitation could win hotel stay and concert tickets

If this question were posed a decade or two ago, a lot of young women's hands might have gone up, embarrassed at the thought of their mothers seeing them behave like the wild princess of pop. But, as of late, Madonna seems to have pulled herself up by her leather stiletto bootstraps. OK, let's see: She's a happily married, devoted wife - except for that infamous Britney-Christina kiss; she's found her spiritual side through Kabbalah, the mystical interpretation of the Jewish Scriptures - except that many people have likened the form she studies to a cult and find her new Kabbalah name, Esther, a bit, well, odd; she's a critically acclaimed author who gets to sit at her London home with her two children and write books - except that they are on an elementary school level and probably not what her fans want to read in a book penned by Madonna.

Regardless, a lot of people today might not mind being the Material Girl, and Friday at Coconuts in Surrey Center they can have their chance at the radio station WZNY-FM Madonna Idol.

Starting at 10 p.m., Madonna fans of legal drinking age will have one to three minutes to look, sing, act, vogue or be like Madonna to win a hotel stay and a pair of tickets to Madonna's sold-out July 24 concert at Philips Arena in Atlanta.

Jana Sutter, the WZNY-FM program director and afternoon air personality, said she has received lots of phone inquiries about the bash.

Lip-syncing is acceptable, and all songs must be pre-approved, Ms. Sutter said. "We're doing this because we think it's fun and we feel like this way only the true fans will win the tickets," she said.

The winner will be determined by secret ballot votes from the audience. One lucky voting audience member also will get a pair of tickets. Sign up at www.wzny.com until 6 p.m. Friday. For more information, call 278-1057.
