Augusta GreenJackets fans who will be home tonight will get the chance to see their team play the Capital City Bombers live on television.

WFXG-TV/Fox 54, the local affiliate, will air the Fourth of July game and postgame fireworks show beginning at 7 p.m. from Columbia.

The GreenJackets and Bombers will be facing off for the fourth game in a row. Capital City took the first two in Augusta before the series traveled Interstate 20 to Columbia.

MORE GREENJACKETS: Staff ace Jarrett Gardner woke up Wednesday morning with a sore knee after throwing two innings in Tuesday's South Atlantic League All-Star Game.

Gardner said he's not sure how he injured the knee and was awaiting results from an MRI to find out the extent of the damage.

The right-hander leads the GreenJackets with an 8-3 record and 2.13 ERA.

l Catcher Jon de Vries missed Friday's game with a sore throwing arm and manager Chad Epperson said he could be out a few days.

De Vries hurt his right elbow sliding into second base in Thursday's game against Capital City.

l Right-handed pitcher Beau Vaughan got a rude awakening when he made a spot start for Double-A Portland.

Vaughan gave up five runs on five hits and five walks in 3w innings against Akron. Portland came back to win the game 7-6 with a two-run ninth to get Vaughan off the hook for the loss. He is 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA with the GreenJackets.

AREA PLAYERS: Former Westside player Matt Childers got the win in relief Tuesday with the Indianapolis Indians, the Milwaukee Brewers' Triple-A affiliate.

The Indians beat the Buffalo Bisons 3-2 thanks to a 12th-inning two-run home run by Peter Bergeron, who the Indians received from the Montreal Expos organization when the Brewers traded Matt's brother Jason in June.

Matt gave up one run on one hit in three innings to improve to 3-2.

AROUND THE MINORS: Kansas City Royals farmhand Chris Coughlin threw a nine-inning perfect game Wednesday for the Class A Burlington Bees. Coughlin (2-1, 5.79 ERA) struck out 11 as the Bees beat the Beloit Snappers 3-0 in the Midwest League.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats pitcher Jamie Vermilyea threw a seven-inning perfect game Monday against the New Britain Rock Cats. The Toronto Blue Jays' prospect struck out five in the 2-0 win in the Double-A Eastern League.
