Mrs. Evelyn Houston (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga.- Evelyn Blackwell Houston, wife of the late Charles Gordon Houston Jr., entered into rest on Friday, June 11, 2004, at University Hospital. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 14, 2004, at Westover Memorial Park at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Boyd Lien officiating. Survivors include sons, Charles Gordon Houston III of Loudon Co., Va., William Tennent Houston of Augusta and John Brooke Houston of Atlanta and five grandchildren. Mrs. Houston was born in 1925 in Canton, Ga. She graduated from Shorter College and moved to Augusta in 1946. She loved the arts, particularly music and drama and was a founding member of the Augusta Symphony Guild and was active in early arts programs of the Junior League. She directed several operas for the Augusta Symphony and acted with local theatrical groups. She was also owner of the Consignment Shop antique store for many years.
