Mr. Thomas Chandler (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mr. Thomas Erwin Chandler, age 85 died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Doctor's Hospital. The funeral will be at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road Chapel, today at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Freed officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Chandler was a native of Newberry, S.C. and graduated from Newberry College and the University of South Carolina and attended several other colleges. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. After the war, he was involved in public education as a teacher and a principal from 1946 to 1952. From 1952 to 1974 he was an educational specialist at Fort Gordon with the Signal School and the Military Police School except for five years as Educational Advisor at the U.S. Army Chemical School and Educational Specialist at the U.S. Army WAC School at Ft. McClellan, Al. After retirement in 1974 from the U.S. Army civil service, Mr. Chandler taught math, Physical Science, management, supe rvision, and foremanship as a member of the adjunct faculty of Georgia Military College and Augusta Technical Institute. Mr. Chandler was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, the Whittington Center Gun Club and the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Pointe South Golf Club, and the Aiken Seniors Golf Association. He was a member of Post 63, American Legion, and the Augusta and South Carolina Genealogical Societies. Survivors include a son, Thomas E. Chandler, Jr. of Kingwood, Texas, two daughters, Cathy C. Moser of Mobile, Ala. and Candice C. Adams of Martinez, Ga. and one granddaughter, two grandsons and one great grandson. Pallbearers will be members of Ascension Church.
