A man accused of shooting a Richmond County sheriff's narcotics investigator died this morning, officials said.
Tory Knight, 27, was pronounced dead at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, said Sheriff Ronnie Strength.
Sheriff Strength said he had received a phone call between 5 and 5:30 a.m. confirming Mr. Knight's death.
Mr. Knight was alleged to have shot Investigator Greg Meagher on Tuesday night during a drug raid in the Burke County town of Gough. Mr. Knight was shot in the side during the raid.
Neither the sheriff nor the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has divulged who shot Mr. Knight.
Investigator Meagher is continuing to recover at MCG, Sheriff Strength said. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
The sheriff said he would receive an update on the investigator's condition later this morning.
