SAVANNAH, GA.

The First Saturday festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. features 52 artists and crafters from around the region and live entertainment. The event is sponsored by the Savannah Waterfront Association. Call (912) 234-0295.

TYBEE ISLAND, GA.

Want to do a bit more than sit and sun at the beach? The Tybee Island Marine Science Center plays host to walks at 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays that offer a chance to learn about beach ecology, sift sand for critters and work a net in the water. The cost is $4, no charge for toddlers age 2 and younger. Call (912) 786-5917 to register.

WATKINSVILLE, GA.

The 23 artists in the Happy Valley cooperative opens their studios Saturday and Sunday to showcase jewelry, candles, blown and stained glass, paintings, and pottery. There's also American Indian music and dance. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. There's also an open house at Chappelle Art Gallery, 25 S. Main St. downtown, with works by 58 artists. Happy Valley is at 1210 Carson Graves Road. From Augusta, take Interstate 20 west to Greensboro, then Georgia Highway 15 north. Turn left on Antioch Church Road, then left on Colham Ferry Road.
