Officials find man wanted in accident

A 34-year-old Martinez man whom police were looking for in connection with a Sunday night hit-and-run accident in Augusta was arrested in Columbia County on Monday.

Timothy Wynn, of the 1700 block of Petersburg Square, was charged with battery from a separate case in Columbia County. Officials said he was taken to the Columbia County jail and is being held on traffic charges from the accident.

Once he makes bond in Columbia County, Mr. Wynn will be transferred to the Richmond County jail, officials said.

Sunday's wreck occurred at Ninth and Reynold Streets when a white Isuzu Rodeo struck a 1995 Mazda Protege that was traveling south on Ninth, Richmond County sheriff's Deputy Brandon Reeves said.

The driver of the Protege, Keith Howell, 27, who was thrown from the vehicle, was in fair condition at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.

Theodore Becton Sr., 20, and his 9-month-old son, Theodore Becton Jr., who were also in the Protege, have been released from the hospital.

Witnesses to the accident said the Rodeo driver ran a red light while traveling west on Reynolds Street before hitting the other car.

No further information about the battery charge against Mr. Wynn was available Monday night.
