Mrs. Elizabeth Norris (EVANS, Ga.)

EVANS, Ga. - Elizabeth "Liz" Hall Norris, 81, of Evans, Georgia died Saturday, May 22, 2004. Funeral services will at 2 p.m., Monday, May 24, 2004 at First Baptist Church of Evans with Rev. Steve Spencer and Rev. Marcella Glover officiating. Burial will be in the First Baptist Church of Evans Cemetery. "Liz" was born September 15, 1922 in Augusta, Georgia but very shortly after, her family moved to Hereford Farm Road, Evans, Georgia. She graduated from Evans High School in 1939. As a child she loved to skate and do gymnastics. As she grew older she would fondly tell anyone that would listen that she could walk on her hands several blocks as a child. On Hereford Farm Road, just up the road she met the love of her life, W.B. "Dub" Norris. They married in 1940 and built a modest home which included a dairy farm in between her parents and his on that same dirt road. They were married 49 years when Dub Passed away in 1990. Liz worked for 40 years as the bookkeeper for H.L. Greens Dime Store. She was dedicated and loyal to the company coming back from retirement several times to help out. At the same time she was working with Dub in their Dairy Farm getting up before she went to H. L. Greens to keep up with farm chores. She was a founding member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class and attended First Baptist Church of Evans for the last 70 years. Though Liz had no children, there are three generations of nieces and nephews who will forever consider her like a second mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for sharing her life and love with us by choice not by circumstance. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Clara Hall Rivers and her husband W.B. "Dub" Norris. Survivors include a sister, Frances Beach, Evans, Ga.; a brother, William Hall, Clarksville, Tenn. She leaves behind three generations of daughters in spirit, Dorothy Rivers Smith, Angela Smith- Mathews, and Lauren Mathews all of Evans, Ga.; many ni eces and nephews, and many more great nieces and nephews and even more great-great nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Rivers, Jr., Ben Rivers, Van Rivers, Jimmy Rivers, Michael Rivers, and Alan Harrison. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Gleaners Sunday School Class.
