STATESBORO, Ga. -- Jason Hurst hit a game-winning single in the ninth inning to lift Georgia Southern to an 11-10 win over The Citadel on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (30-23, 18-8 Southern Conference) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Jon Aughey hit an RBI double and scored on a wild pitch.
The Eagles (30-22, 18-8) responded with a four-run third as Logan Phillips hit a solo home run. Brandon Long added a sacrifice fly that scored Payne. Grant Burress and Greg Dowling each drove in runs to take a 4-2 lead.
The Eagles scored three runs each in the fourth and sixth inning, but the Bulldogs answered with a seven-run eighth that tied the game at 10.
Brian Harrison (7-5) got the win in relief for Georgia Southern, despite allowing three earned runs in 1 1-3 innings. Starter Everett Teaford had seven strikeouts and gave up three earned runs, including nine hits in seven innings.
Griff Beckham (3-4) took the loss in relief for the Bulldogs. Starter Ken Egleton gave up seven runs, five earned, in three innings.
