Narcotics investigators from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office arrested a Richmond County man on drug trafficking charges and seized more than 130 pounds of marijuana Friday.
At the sheriff's office narcotics building, Lt. Robert Partain said investigators executed a search warrant at 1:50 p.m. Friday at 28-year-old Marcus Antonio Johnson's home, in the 2500 block of Pate Road.
Authorities charged Mr. Johnson, the target of a three-month undercover investigation, with felony trafficking in marijuana, Lt. Partain said.
Lt. Partain said police suspect Mr. Johnson is part of a drug ring and more arrests could follow.
From inside the house and a backyard shed, authorities seized a dozen large bricks of marijuana, one of them weighing as much as 20 pounds, and several more plastic bags filled with the drug, Lt. Partain said.
The drugs are worth about $130,000, he said.
Narcotics investigators also seized a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun and an SKS assault rifle from Mr. Johnson's vehicle, Lt. Partain said.
