Mr. Edward Maddox, Jr. (LAKELAND, Fla.)



LAKELAND, Fla.- Mr. Edward R. Maddox, Jr. died of cancer, Friday, May 7, 2004 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 54. Born January 10, 1950 in Charleston, S.C. he came to Lakeland from Augusta, Georgia in 1991 as a career change. He quickly became active in community service in various organizations. He is Past President of Citrus Center Kiwanis Club, Past President of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Polk County and served as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland. His career included 21 years of service with Kendall Healthcare products in Augusta prior to his move to Lakeland. He was the General Manager of Banta Healthcare Products until December 2000 when he and two partners purchased the business to maintain the facility and keep jobs in Lakeland. The company renamed at that time to Omnia, Inc. and continues to be successful today. One unique aspect of his career is that his wife worked with him in the business for their entire 1 8 year marriage. She says "Everyone asked me how do you work with your husband everyday? And my answer is our marriage grew up in it and we don't know any better!" He was an avid golfer and a member of Lone Palm Golf Club. In addition to his wife, Cynthia B. Maddox, he is survived by his mother, Ruth Hazel Maddox, Augusta, Ga.; his brother, Robert C. Maddox, Augusta, Ga.; his children, Robert E. Maddox, Orlando, Fla., Nathaniel L. Maddox, Lakeland, Fla. and Caitlin Summer Maddox, Lakeland, Fla. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland. Services will be on Friday at 4 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Ed Maddox Memorial, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, Fla. 33801.
