NEW YORK -- "Wicked," the "Wizard of Oz" prequel, has won four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including the prize for best musical.
"I Am My Own Wife," Doug Wright's drama about a German transvestite, was named best play by the organization of more than 75 journalists who write outside of New York.
Lead acting awards in the play categories were taken by Frank Langella in "Match" and Eileen Atkins for "The Retreat From Moscow." Hugh Jackman, who portrays entertainer Peter Allen in "The Boy From Oz," picked up the actor-musical award. Donna Murphy won the actress-musical prize for her performance in "Wonderful Town," which was also named best musical revival.
Lincoln Center Theater's production of "Henry IV," starring Kevin Kline and Michael Hayden, received the play-revival award.
Besides musical, "Wicked" took prizes for Joe Mantello for outstanding direction of a musical, and two design awards: Eugene Lee for sets; Susan Hilferty for costumes.
