Big Movers in the Stock Market



NEW YORK -- Stocks that were moving substantially or trading heavily Monday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market.

Aventis SA, down $5.76 at $74.00

The French drug maker agreed to be bought by its smaller rival Sanofi-Synthelabo for about $63 billion in cash and stock, less than had been expected.

Humana Inc., down $1.30 at $17.71

The managed care company reported strong earnings, but its top executive talked of increasing competition.

International Game Technology, down $1.26 at $40.39

The world's largest maker of slot machines is down 15 percent since its earnings report last week hinted that growth is slowing.

OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc., up $52.96 at $91.10, Genentech Inc., up $13.77 at $131.99 (traded on NYSE)

Tarceva, a drug developed by OSI, was shown to significantly improve survival for a form of lung cancer. The drug has been licensed by Genentech and Roche Holding AG of Switzerland.

Abgenix Inc. up $3.00 at $17.70

Investors interpreted the good news for Tarceva as boosting prospects for this biotech's own cancer drug.

Abatix Corp. down $1.55 at $7.23

A shareholder lawsuit was announced late Friday against the company, which sells industrial safety and environmental equipment. The stock was halted earlier this month after questions arose about an announcement from the Dallas-based company that it would start selling a new kind of firefighting equipment.
