ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers changed backup outfielders Friday, sending down prospect Ramon Nivar to Triple-A Oklahoma and calling up Chad Allen.
The 29-year-old Allen was hitting .518, tops in the minors, with a homer, six doubles and 13 RBIs. He was among the team's last cuts in spring training.
Nivar was hitting .222 with four RBIs in seven games. He started six times in center field, but had played in just one of the last seven games.
The club also transferred former All-Star closer Jeff Zimmerman to the 60-day disabled list, another detour in his long journey back from surgery on his right elbow.
