FUERTEVENTURA, Canary Islands -- David Park of Wales shot a 6-under-par 64 Thursday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Spanish Open.
Park made six birdies and did not drop a shot in the strong wind. His round was highlighted by a chip-in from 30 yards at the par-4 10th.
In second place, was Jamie Donaldson of Wales. Sharing third at 66 were Roger Chapman of England and Christian Cevaer of France.
Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal, trying to win this event in his 18th attempt, missed a lot of short putts in his round of 71.
"I was dreadful on the greens," he said.
