Mrs. Janet Walker (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Janet Cone Walker, 63, wife of Dr. Benjamin Hagan Walker, III, died peacefully on Monday, April 19, 2004, after battling her debilitating disease, Multiple Systems Atrophy. During her three years of suffering she remained positive and steadfast in her faith. Family members include four loving children, sons; Lt. Commander Benjamin Hagan Walker, IV and wife Cynthia of Virginia Beach, Va., Bruce Young Walker and wife Shelley of Martinez; daughters, Brynne Valentine Cook and husband Richard of Port Hueneme, Calif., Amy Lawrence Walker of North Augusta; one brother, Kenneth A. Cone and wife Diane of Augusta; three sisters,Theresa C. Gordon of Augusta, Barbara C. Schmunk of Irving, Texas, and Diane C. Laffin and husband Edward of Lugoff, S.C. and fourteen grandchildren; Houston Walker, Reyna Walker, Anna Marie Walker, Will Walker, Caleb Walker, Kyle Cook, Alex Cook, Mary Michaela Cook, Christopher Cook, Joseph Cook, Rita Cook, Thomas Cook, Ma deline Walker and Hagan Walker. Mrs. Walker was a native of Charleston, S.C. and had lived in Augusta most of her life. As the wife of an Air Force Officer, she spent 21 years dedicating herself to her role of officer's wife and homemaker. She was an active member of The Church of The Most Holy Trinity and was the founder and coordinator of The Living Rosary, now in its fourteenth year, held each October on Pro-Life Sunday at Aquinas High School. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy, Aquinas High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Troy State University. The funeral Mass will be Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 12 Noon at The Church of The Most Holy Trinity. Father Allan J. McDonald will be the celebrant. Other priests assisting will include Father Michael Lubinsky, Father Daniel Munn, Father Miguel Grave de Paralga and Father Andrew Doris. Also assisting in the Mass will be Deacon Ephrim Williams and Deacon Elmor Butler, and Mr. Bill Harper. Interment will be in Magnolia C emetery. Pallbearers will include nephews; James Gordon, Paul Gordon, Andrew Gordon, William Gordon, Ken Cone, Michael Schmunk, Travis Laffin, Trey Laffin, Bryan Walker, Cleveland Walker, Patrick Hatch, Bryan Hatch, Michael Hatch, Charles Walker and Joseph Walker. Honorary escort will be the alumna of the 1958 Aquinas graduating class. The Holy Rosary will be prayed (today) Friday, April 23, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the Thomas Poteet & Son and the family will receive friends afterward.
