SFC Frank Latson (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga.- SFC (ret.) Frank Latson, 83, beloved and devoted husband of Mrs. Annie Ruth Latson, entered into rest peacefully after an extended illness at the University Hospital, April 21, 2004. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 26, 2004 at 12 noon from Elim Baptist Church, 2359 Mt. Auburn Street, with Rev. Diane Askew officiating. The family will receive friends at his residence, 604 Weed Street and on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rock of Ages CME Church, 714 Johns Road, where the body will lie in state. SFC Latson was a native of Roberson, West Virginia, but spent most of his life in Augusta. He was a member of Rock of Ages Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where he served on the Steward Board, and was its chairman for 25 years. He served as superintendent of the Sunday School, as well as a teacher of Sunday School. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Sand Hills Neighborhood Association, and served as its vice president and president. He also served as vice president of AFGE Local Union 217. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served 22 years. While in the military, he served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Veterans Administration as an environmental management supervisor after 21 years of service. He is survived by his caring, devoted, and loving wife of 50 years, Annie Ruth Latson, one son, James Edward Latson; two daughters, Minister Antoinette Elaine T. (Glenn) Pate, Tracie V. Wilbert "Butch" Gallop, four nieces, Franky King, Billye Moore, Margaret Mack, Boston, Mass.; Teresa Latson, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., two nephews, Willie (Peggy) Latson, Ted Latson, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd Johnson, Clifton, N.J.; Luther N. (Eleanor) Johnson, Eugenia J. (Rev. Dr. Nathaniel) Irvin, Elizabeth (Robert) Hand, N. Augusta, Ellis Marvin (Ann N.) Johnson, Augusta, grandchildren, Robin A. (Thomas) Turnage, Bobby Turman, Baltimore, Md.; Bianca Latson, Taurean B. Latson, Huntsville, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Raven G. Childs, Thomas Ryan Turnage, Ramsey Turnage, Florence, S.C.; god-children, Dr. Thomas Irvin, Germany; Valsilesseia Moore, Chester, Penn., Regenia Stokes, Keith Johnson, Carl Rogers, Tommy Newberry, Augusta, devoted friends, Robert and Juanita Turman, Dot Cheek, Benny and Donna Cheeks, Salley Piper, Jaudon Piper, and Edward Hughes; grand nieces and nephews and cousins and other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers will be members of the United States Army. Honorary pallbearers will be the Steward and Stewardess Boards of Rock of Ages CME Church, AFGE Local 217, Young Men's Bible Club, and the Board of Directors of Summerville Neighborhood Association.
