Mr. Joseph Penvose (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Joseph L. Penvose, "PaPa Joe", 72, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at University Hospital. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret Lee Penvose. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Harden, his grandson, Johnny Johnson Jr. and his brother, Jack R. Penvose. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 2 p.m. with with the Rev. Terry Duncan officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army from Fort Gordon, Ga. Survivors include his daughters, Patty Penvose and Joanna Brown both of Augusta; son, Jack R. Penvose of Laurens, S.C.; ten grandchildren, Joseph D. Penvose, Michelle Gabbard, Brian R. Penvose, Keith Penvose, Melissa Penvose, Jeremy Harden, Derek Penvose, Eric Weathersbee, Shawn Weathersbee and Bryan Brown; as well as six great grandchildren. Mr. Penvose was a native of Niagra Falls, N.Y. and the son of th e late Robert and Ethel Stafford Penvose. He had retired with the rank of First Sergeant as an MP with the U.S. Army having served in both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts where he was awarded the Aircraft Crewman's Badge with OLC, the Air Medal with OLC, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and the Bronze Star for his Sharpshooting. He had also served as a deputy with the Richmond County Sheriff's Department. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3783 Presidential Parkway, Suite 102, Atlanta, Ga. 30340.
