U.S. to face Czechs in under-18 hockey worlds



MINSK, Belarus -- The United States will play the Czech Republic in the semifinals of the under-18 world hockey championships.

The Czechs won their quarterfinal Thursday, beating Sweden 5-1 on two goals each by Michal Birner and Michal Psurny.

Defending champion Canada defeated Slovakia 3-1 behind Kyle Chipchura's two power-play goals and will play Russia in the other semifinal.

The United States advanced to the semis by beating Canada 2-1 on Tuesday. The Americans (4-0-0) clinched first place in their group.
