Rants and raves

Comments from readers:

WHEN TEST SCORES rise, it is because of the hard-working teachers and principals who work directly with students. And in the case of Richmond County, that happens despite a superintendent and Board of Education that have spent eight years blaming and punishing school-level employees, rather than supporting and encouraging them. When they claim the successes as their own to defend (Dr. Charles) Larke's treasure hoard, they exemplify the public's perception of them as arrogant and ignorant.

I CANNOT BELIEVE the time and effort the parents and citizens of Richmond County have taken to write and complain about leave pay that Dr. Larke received. If the parents and citizens of Richmond County would put forth the same effort in making sure their children are going to school on time, completing their assigned homework and not disrupting the classes, we would have a better school system. Dr. Larke is not the only superintendent who has received paid leave. Go back and check your records.

THIS IS A BIG RANT for the Burke County state court system. Someone needs to look into that system. We need a new judge elected for Burke County. He doesn't seem to fully understand the procedures of how to run a state court correctly.

THIS IS A RANT on the article about greeters at stores. We are paid employees. We are not paid to be nice to people like that. Identify yourself, and we'll be sure not to speak, smile or tell you to have a nice day. At least we are at work.

THIS IS A RAVE FOR all the stores that hire the elderly to be door greeters. This gives retired people a chance at an income that they may not otherwise be able to get. These people do a great job, and most of them could never be at the register. To be a cashier, you must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time, you bag your own groceries, and put them into the customer's cart. Senior citizens cannot always do this, and therefore, the store offers them a salary of working as a door greeter. My hat's off to these stores.
