Next year's Academy Awards show set for end of February

LOS ANGELES -- Oscar is sticking with his date.

The late-February date for the Academy Awards presentation, that is. Next year, the statuettes will be handed out Sunday, Feb. 27.

It'll be the second year in a row the Oscar ceremony has been held in February. Last year, academy leadership decided to move up the event - usually held in late March - in an attempt to rejuvenate a show whose TV ratings slipped in recent years.

Some academy members complained about the earlier date, saying they had little time before their votes were due to watch films released at the end of the year.

It also caused several other organizations to hold their awards shows earlier, so they could take place before the Oscars.

For the next Academy Awards, nomination ballots will be mailed Dec. 27; nominations announced Jan. 25; and final ballots mailed Feb. 2.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and televised live on ABC.
