Rants and raves

Comments from readers:

THIS IS A RANT to Richard Clarke, ex-terrorism expert. He is exploiting the 9-11 tragedy to help sales of his book. He's strutting around Washington like an oversexed rooster. With friends like him, who needs enemies?

I WAS APPALLED Sunday as the two accidents happened on Bobby Jones Expressway. People were parking off Augusta West Parkway across from the Japanese restaurant and walking up to the side of the bank to watch these accidents and what happened afterward with the emergency responders. I just find it very morbid and disgusting that people are in need of that kind of entertainment, and I just think it is absurd.

NOW WE KNOW why MCG had to cut back its nursing staff - otherwise, those high-priced paper-pushers might not have qualified for their obscene bonuses.

FINALLY, OUR Department of Homeland Security has reached deep into Petticoat Junction to rid us of dangerous elements, possible terrorists and, worst of all, illegal immigrants! Our taxpayers' money put to good use by nabbing honor students! Thank you, Mr. Bush, and thank you, Mr. Ashcroft! I feel so much safer already.

THIS IS A RAVE for the new comics. Thank you for the addition of some excellent comics. The first things I read each morning are the comics; their humor and thought-provoking messages get my day off to a good start. I hope you keep these excellent choices. Again, thank you for further brightening my mornings!

I'VE KNOWN PETE Fletcher since law school and know he is extremely honest, intelligent and professional. If Dr. Larke is trying to blame him for approving the questionable vacation pay, I suggest Dr. Larke point his greedy finger somewhere else. The board is going to have to compromise with Larke and move on with our education needs. Larke should repay at least the $20,000-plus in benefits he added to his $94,000 vacation pay as he would have received this, anyway.
