Woman found dead in South Augusta residence



Richmond County sheriff's investigators are looking into a possible homicide in south Augusta.

Police would not disclose details, but Richmond County Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen said a woman was found dead at about 2 p.m. at a residence on the 3800 block of Southfield Drive near Boykin Road.

Investigators sealed off the residence and were inside collecting evidence.

Officials also said three people were taken into custody at the Augusta Lodge, 1520 Gordon Highway, but would not identify them or say how they are connected with the case.

At about 3:30 p.m., a room on the second-floor deck of at the hotel, located near Peach Orchard Road, was cordoned off with yellow police tape and a sheriff's deputy was posted outside.

Residents standing outside a parking area of the lodge said a Ford Crown Victoria was towed by authorities.
