Man in assault case is sought

Columbia County authorities today are searching for a registered sex offender accused of sexually assaulting a woman Tuesday night.

Brian A. Scott, of Bridlewood Trail in Evans, is being sought by police on several warrants, including aggravated assault, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment and cruelty to children in the second degree, said sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris.

Capt. Morris said Mr. Scott and the woman got into an argument just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the woman's four children inside the house.

Mr. Scott then forced her into a closet and locked the door, where he held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her, Capt. Morris said.

The woman told police that Mr. Scott forced her to have sex. During the hour inside the closet, a struggle ensued, during which she received lacerations to her hands, Capt Morris said.

The woman persuaded Mr. Scott to let her go to wash the blood from her hands, and she ran to a neighbor's house, where the police were called.

When officers arrived, Mr. Scott was gone, Capt. Morris said.

Because the woman's four children - ages 8, 7, 4 and 3 - were inside the home at the time of the incident, heard the struggle and saw the blood on their mother's hands, a case worker from the Columbia County Department of Family and Children Services was called in, Capt. Morris said.

The woman was taken to Doctors Hospital, where she was treated and released. The children were left in the custody of their mother, said Linda Jonesbury, the Columbia County DFCS director.

Mr. Scott is a registered sex offender in Columbia County on a statutory rape conviction outside the area, Capt. Morris said.
