BOSTON -- Former Red Sox minor leaguer Michael Lynch was hired as athletic director at Boston University on Wednesday.
Lynch also will continue as assistant vice president of development for athletics, his job since arriving at the school in 2000. He replaces Gary Strickler, who is retiring at the end of the school year after 16 years as athletic director.
Lynch graduated in 1990 from Rollins College, where he was an All-American pitcher. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers and later played in the Red Sox organization.
Later, he was a baseball coach at Union College from 1993-97, when he left to work at the University of Miami. While there, he helped direct a fund-raising campaign that built the current basketball home of the Hurricanes.
