FRIDAY-SATURDAY: A primitive weapons hunt for turkey will be held at the Corps of Engineers Bussey Point Management Area. Hunts are limited to 10 hunters per day, chosen at random. Applications are due by March 19. Call (800) 533-3478, ext. 1159 for details.
SATURDAY: Mistletoe State Park will hold a Parent-Child Fishing Tournament with registration from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and weigh-in at 3 p.m. Prizes include a two-night stay in a park cabin. Fishing will be from the banks. Call 541-0321 for more details.
TUESDAY, APRIL 6-THURSDAY, APRIL 8: Mistletoe State Park will hold a Junior Ranger program to introduce kids to Georgia's natural, cultural and recreational resources. Kids will learn how to hike, identify trees and birds and study Indian and pioneer life. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. Cost is $25. For pre-registration call 541-0321.
SATURDAY, APRIL 10: An Antique Fishing Tackle Show and Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ramada Plaza Hotel, Interstate 77 at Two Notch Road in Columbia. Appraisals will be offered for vintage tackle brought to the show. Call (706) 860-5316 for details.
THURSDAY, APRIL 15: A Family Discovery Series on Snakes will be held at 6 p.m. at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park with bring-your-own picnic dinner beginning at 5 p.m. Call 828-2109 for more details.
FRIDAY, APRIL 16-SATURDAY, APRIL 17: A turkey hunt for disabled hunters will be held at Savannah River Site with NWTF's Wheelin Sportsman program and the USDA Forest Service. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21-THURSDAY, APRIL 22: A symposium on Wild Pig Control will be held at the Ramada Plaza in Augusta for wildlife managers, landowners and sportsmen. Contact the USDA Forest Service, (803) 725-1034 for details.
SATURDAY, APRIL 24: Earth Day Augusta will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Phinizy Swamp Nature park with exhibits, workshops and other activities. Free admission. A 5K run will be held, too. Call 828-2109 for more information.
SATURDAY, MAY 1: The Fourth Annual Eco-Meet will be held at Phinizy Swamp Nature park with topics including turkey biology, wetlands ecology and pollution prevention. The competition is open to teams of three or four students from grades six through eight. Call 828-2109 for details.
