Mr. Fred Gilbert (GREENSBORO, Ga.)



GREENSBORO, Ga.- To a legion of family, friends, colleagues and clients gathered over his lifetime, Atlanta Attorney Fred A. Gilbert will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty and sense of humor. Fred was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and counsel. He was born in Laurel Bloomery, Tenn., son of Daily Earl and Louise East Gilbert. He served in the U.S. Air Force, did his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia, and was a 1959 graduate of the UGA School of Law. Fred's wife of 52 years, Jean was his love; the practice of law was his occupation; and Golf was his passion. He practiced law throughout Georgia for 42 years, and never hesitated to take on the cause for clients who needed his help. Fred was a member of Reynolds Plantation, Settindown Creek, Lake Arrowhead, Bent Tree and Dunwoody Country Clubs. A memorial mass will be Monday, March 29, 2004 at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Athens. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter, Jeanine Gilbert Russell (Charles) of Athens; grandchildren, Ansley Russell Hegman (David) of Buford, Adrian Lindsey Russell (Brett Alpert) Blake William Russell of Athens and Grant James Bigilin of Alabaster, Ala.; sisters, Edna Southwell of Delaware, Sandra Williams, Mary Sonnita and Doris Henderson and brothers, Jimmy Gilbert and Roger Gilbert, all of Lenoir, NC. Fred also touched the lives of countless nieces and nephews throughout his extended family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 3 and 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church (Greensboro, GA), Peachtree Christian Hospice (Duluth, GA) or the Red and Black Publishing Company Endowment Fund, Athens, Ga.
