South Carolina's stellar season continued Monday in the seventh annual Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday.
The No. 16-ranked Gamecocks, winners of two of their past three tournaments, fired the two lowest rounds of the tournament (278-281) and are the only team in red numbers at 9-under 559. South Carolina leads Coastal Carolina (282-289) by 12 shots entering today's final round at the par-71 Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken.
South Carolina's Eirik Johansen posted scores of 67-68 and leads the individual portion at 7 under. Teammate Martin Rominger (70-66) trails by one. Junior Gamecock Alex Hamilton of Aiken shot 69-73 and is tied for 10th place.
Host team USC Aiken, one of two Division II teams in the 14-team field, sits in third place after rounds of 287-285. The Pacers trail South Carolina by 13 strokes.
USC Aiken's James McGhee carded rounds of 70-71 and is tied for sixth, six shots off the pace. Teammates Dane Burkhart (71-73, tied for 13th) and Clint Smith (74-71, tied for 18th) join McGhee inside the top 20.
In the individual competition, Furman's Buddy Davis (67-71) is three shots back in third place. Memphis' David Jeans (70-69) and Coastal Carolina's Moises Cobo (68-71) are tied for fourth.
In the team event, Memphis (292-285) and Virginia Tech (289-289) round out the top five.
Today's action begins at 8 a.m. and the last group tees off at 11:12 a.m.
