Mrs. Nell Walden (MATTHEWS, Ga.)

MATTHEWS, Ga. - Mrs. Nell Barrow Walden, 79, peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord early Monday morning, March 15, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at James Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. with her son, Pastor Joe B. Walden, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight, March 16, 2004 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home or at 6236 Highway 88, Matthews. She is predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Barrow brother, Ralph Barrow, and sister, Rosa B. Hamilton. Mrs. Walden was a lifelong resident of the Matthews Community. She received her education at Matthews School, Wrens High School, the Junior College of Augusta, and also taught elementary school for many years. Mrs. Walden was a lifelong faithful member at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a leader for the MYF for more than th irty years. Until her health failed, Mrs. Walden was also an active member of the John Franklin Wren Chapter NDAR of which she was a charter member. She ministered and cared in many different ways in her life, singing in weddings and funerals countless times during the 1950's thru 1980's, caring for the needs of area children, working in the family business Barrow & Prescott, Inc. for more than 20 years, numerous hours visiting the sick and lonely. "Miss" Nell's life was lived in service and obedience to the Lord, and she fulfilled his commandments in every way. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James W. Walden; one daughter, Lynn (Gene) Walden Williams; one son, Joe (Karen) Barrow Walden; four grandchildren, John ( Pam) Walden Williams, Jennifer (Timmy) Walden Chance, Laice (Lee) Walden Newman and J. Barrow Walden, Jr. all of Matthews eight great-grandchildren Erika, Blythe, Luke, Bethany, Caleb, Jacob, Nathan, and Rachel; two sisters Sara (Herbert) Barrow Pennington; Dorot hy (W.T.) Barrow Atwell of Matthews; and one brother, W. (Maxine) Prichard Wilson, of Albany, Ga.; six nieces and nephews, Emily (George) Hamilton Farmer, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Jenny Pennington, Matthews; Becky (Randy) Wilson Beaudry, East Lansing, MI; Cathy (Tom) Wilson Hauldren, Kingsport, Tenn.; Bill (Adrienne) Wilson, Albany, Ga.; Amy (Bill) Wilson Morgan, Monticello, Ga.; and 15 great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jeff Jones, Jim Milton, Alan Rabun, Charles Stewart, Edward Prescott, Kenneth Prescott, Sam Pennington, and Rowan Prescott. Memorials may be made to Mt.
