Col. Darrell Rishel (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga.-Entered into rest Saturday, March 13, 2004 at Doctors Hospital at the age of 76 Col. Darrell Fred Rishel. Col. Rishel was born in Alexandria, Pa. and lived the past 11 years in Augusta, Ga. During a long and distinguished career as a helicopter pilot in the Army he achieved the rank of Colonel. He received his Doctor of Education at Penn State University. He was an accomplished musician, playing most recently with The Augusta Jazz Project. Col. Rishel served as a deacon for the First Christian Church of Augusta. Col. Rishel is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy; aunt, Jean Bollinger; two sisters, Catherine Jean Knee and Caroline Rowles of Clearfield, Pa.; a son and his wife, Darrell F. and Allyn Rishel of Corning, N.Y.; a daughter and her husband, Drs. Rebecca and Tim Mecredy of Augusta, Ga.; 4 grandchildren, Darrell and Matthew Rishel, Michael and Emily Mecredy and one great-grandson, Alexander Joseph R ishel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, March 16, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services with full military honors will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors with burial in Westover Memorial Park.
