As a citizen of Augusta-Richmond County, and a 20-year veteran of local law enforcement, I feel the most important issue facing voters Tuesday is filling the office of coroner.
Our coroner should truly be a skilled investigator and a good communicator, and have the compassion and ability to deal with people during their most trying times.
Over the last 27 years, Lt. Jimmy Wylds has become a skilled investigator while working on or overseeing hundreds of death investigations, as well as other cases. He is truly a skilled communicator, as evidenced by his service as public information officer for the Augusta Police Department, and occasionally while serving with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
His greatest asset, compassion, comes from his heart and not a textbook. I have witnessed this firsthand as he dealt with family members of accident victims, tragedies and illness.
Lt. Jimmy Wylds meets all the qualifications of the person I would like to have as our coroner. Please join me in voting on Tuesday, and elect Jimmy Wylds as the next coroner of Richmond County.
