Southern Baptist event focuses on revival of church

Junior Hill and Herb Reavis Jr. will join some of the brightest lights in preaching among Southern Baptists in a two-day revival Monday and Tuesday at Abilene Baptist Church in Martinez.

Revive Us Again! is the theme for the 2004 Georgia Baptist Evangelism Conference which 800 to 2,000 church leaders and their guests are expected to attend, according to organizers.

The conference is for everyone, said the Rev. Tony Dickerson, the president of the Georgia Baptist Convention and pastor of Pinehurst Baptist Church in Columbus.

A breakfast for retired ministers and their wives, which coincides with the conference, will be served at 7 a.m. Tuesday at Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road. For more information, call 860-7049.

Speaker Dianne Parker and singer Starla Harbin will be on hand for a women's luncheon at noon Tuesday at Abilene, 3917 Washington Road. The cost is $5. Call 736-1211.

Evangelist Hill "is an outstanding speaker who puts the depth of the Scripture in terms anyone can understand," said Dr. Mike Minnix, the Georgia state convention's vice president for evangelization in Atlanta.

Dr. Reavis, the pastor of North Jacksonville Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla., "has been a leader in evangelism and has seen outstanding church growth," Dr. Minnix said.

All the messages they and other speakers deliver will be on revival.

Evangelism conferences are meant to encourage those attending "to do the work of evangelism and to share their faith," Dr. Dickerson said.
