BOSTON -- Bruins captain Joe Thornton had surgery on his broken right cheekbone Thursday and is expected to miss at least two more games.
Thornton, also the team's leading scorer, was injured Monday in a fight with Eric Lindros of the New York Rangers. He sat out Tuesday's rematch against the Rangers.
Thornton also will miss games Thursday against Buffalo, and Saturday against Florida. Then his status will be day-to-day.
Thornton, who has 11 goals and 33 assists, practiced Wednesday wearing a full cage attached to his helmet to protect the cheekbone.
