TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Earnest Shelton, Alabama's top scorer, sprained a ligament in his right knee against Georgia and is doubtful for Saturday's game at Mississippi.
Coach Mark Gottfried said it's unclear when the junior guard will be able to return.
"I think it really hurts us," Gottfried said Thursday. "We don't know how long it's going to be.
"It's unfortunate because he's been playing exceptionally well on both ends of the court. We'll take it game by game, see how he feels, and, hopefully it won't be long."
Shelton is averaging 15.5 points per game, 11th-best in the Southeastern Conference. He has scored 20-plus points five times.
Shelton injured the knee in a collision on the court at Georgia Wednesday night with 35 seconds remaining in the first half. He started the second half, but was quickly pulled from the game because of the injury.
