Canada's Omischl earns World Cup aerials win

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Canada's Steve Omischl ignored subzero temperatures Friday to cruise to his fifth World Cup aerials victory.

Omischl finished with 246.01 points, topping Olympic champion Ales Valenta of the Czech Republic (236.39) and Dmitri Dashinski of Belarus (224.07).

"Lake Placid's my home," Omischl said. "I train here at summer, live here six months a year and I'm comfortable on this hill."

China's Jiao Wang earned her first World Cup win with 183.61 points, edging teammate Nina Li by 1.37 points in the women's competition. Lydia Ierodiaconou, who led the qualifying round but bobbled her landing in the final round, finished third with 172.52.

The World Cup schedule continues Saturday with moguls at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid and ends Sunday with a second aerials competition.
