Mr. William Skinner (SARDIS, Ga.)



SARDIS, Ga. - Mr. William Martin Skinner, 85, Sardis, GA entered into rest Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Skinner was a retired Maintenance Supervisor Engineer for the Burke County Board of Education. A U.S. Army veteran, he received a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service while serving with the 945th Field Artillery during WW II in France and Germany. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and was Deacon Emeritus. He was a member of Alexander Lodge # 385 where he was a Past Master and had recently received his 50 year service pin. He was also a member of American Legion Post #180. Funeral services will be graveside, 11 a.m., Friday January 16, 2004 at the Sardis Baptist Cemetery with Dr. Bill King and Dr. Max Kennedy officiating.Full Masonic Rites will be accorded. Mr. Skinner was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Day Skinner, 2003 and his son Billy Skinner, 1997. He is survived by hi s daughter, Melinda Skinner Peebles, Sardis and two grandchildren Samatha M. Peebles and William Daniel Rainy Peebles of Sardis. Pallbearers will be Sheriff Greg Coursey, James Hollingsworth, Frankie Parker, Norbert Tobias, J. C. Christy and Bobby C. Jenkins, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Alexander Lodge #385. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 15, 2004 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel, 842 Liberty Street, Waynesboro, Ga.
