An Augusta woman is asking for help to make her daughter's Christmas a little better.
The woman's daughter was born four weeks ago, and her mother writes that she had to take maternity leave from work during the pregnancy. Almost immediately after she came back from leave, her hours were cut back from 40 a week to 24.
At the same time, her husband, who recently was released from the Navy, has had difficulties getting work.
"My husband was not able to make any sales and is still currently unable to make enough to pay all of our bills, and I would really like to be able to make my daughter's first Christmas a good one," she continues.
Now in its 73rd year, The Augusta Chronicle's fund-raiser helps families in need during the holiday season.
Through contributions to the Empty Stocking Fund, the family will receive gift certificates at Kroger for food and at Kmart for other necessities.
Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. Visit www.augustachronicle.com/emptystocking to make donations online.
