Mom sees funds shrink while raising daughters

A Hephzibah mother of two is seeking help in making this Christmas better for her children.

The woman writes that her husband recently started drinking and has become abusive.

"I had to take my child and leave at eight months pregnant," she continues. "I was only able to take what I could carry, which was only some clothes."

She was forced to stay with her aunt for a while and is now living in a trailer, barely able to pay bills and buy diapers. These financial difficulties have made it impossible to have enough money for gifts for her children, 2-month-old and 2-year-old girls.

Through contributions to the Empty Stocking Fund, the family will receive gift certificates at Kroger for food and at Kmart for other necessities.

Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. Visit www.augustachronicle.com/emptystocking to make donations online.
