Mrs. Meffie Damon (GREEN VALLEY, Ariz.)



GREEN VALLEY, Ariz.- Meffie S. Damon, 79, a resident of Green Valley for 12 years, went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2003 at Carondelet Hospice Center in Tucson after her battle with cancer. She was born in Iowa City, Iowa on September 26, 1924, where she attended public schools and later graduated from the University of Iowa. Meffie served as a Marine in World War II. She went on to teach Dental Hygiene at the University of Iowa, Indiana, and the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. While in Augusta, she was an active member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, AAUW, CSRA Dental Hygiene Society, Sigma Phi Alpha, and volunteered at Sacred Heart Cultural Center. After thirty years of teaching, she retired to Green Valley, where she enjoyed her involvement with St. Francis of the Valley Episcopal Church, Tumacacori National Park and many other organizations. Meffie was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel C. Damon II and her parents. She is survived by her son, Samuel R. Damon, III; sisters, Margaret Brewer and Gwen Chalken. Also granddaughter, Kelsey Brooke Damon and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at Saint Paul's Church followed by burial in the churchyard. The Revs. Dr. Richard Sanders and Dr. David Damon and Lou Scales officiating.
