An Augusta mother of two is struggling to make this holiday season better for her family.
She is on disability and her husband cannot walk or drive after being hurt in a hunting accident last Thanksgiving in which he broke his back and both legs.
"He cannot work, and I don't make much money," she writes. "I would love to see my kids have a Christmas, unlike last year."
The woman has a 13-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter.
Through contributions to the Empty Stocking Fund, the family will receive gift certificates at Kroger stores for food and Kmart stores for other necessities.
Now in its 73rd year, The Augusta Chronicle's fund-raiser helps local families in need during the holiday season.
Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. Or visit www.augustachronicle.com/emptystocking to make donations online.
