Having trouble figuring out how Georgia could - or could not - win the SEC East and advance to the SEC title game? Join the club. Here are five scenarios of what could happen in today's games and how they affect the Bulldogs:

  • Georgia beats Georgia Tech, Tennessee beats Kentucky and Florida loses to Florida State. The Bulldogs would likely stay ahead of the Volunteers and Gators in the Bowl Championship Series standings (Georgia is ranked No. 7 in the BCS, Tennessee is No. 8 and Florida is No. 11). If that happens, Georgia would win the SEC East because of its 41-14 win over Tennessee.
  • Georgia beats Georgia Tech, Tennessee beats Kentucky and Florida beats Florida State. The Bulldogs would have to wait until Monday's release of the BCS standings, then pray the Gators don't jump past the Vols in the BCS. The chances are remote but possible. If that happens, Florida would advance to the SEC title game by virtue of its 16-13 win over Georgia.
  • Georgia beats Georgia Tech, Tennessee loses to Kentucky and Florida beats Florida State. This would force a two-way tie atop the SEC East between the Bulldogs and Gators. Florida would win the division because it beat Georgia.
  • Georgia beats Georgia Tech, Tennessee loses to Kentucky and Florida loses to Florida State. The Gators would still win the division by virtue of their win over the Bulldogs.
  • Georgia loses to Georgia Tech, Tennessee beats Kentucky and Florida beats Florida State. The Bulldogs would probably drop below Tennessee and Florida in the BCS rankings. That would eliminate Georgia.
