A Hephzibah woman wants to make the holidays a little brighter for her two children.
She just had a baby and will be out of work for eight weeks but said she does not qualify for family leave, welfare or food stamps.
Now the woman and her husband are trying to pay bills using her husband's income and would like to be able to get presents for their 6-year-old daughter and newborn son.
"I've always been able to do it before, that's what makes it so hard this year. Bills are going to be far behind enough without trying to get presents," she writes.
Through contributions to The Augusta Chronicle's 73rd annual Empty Stocking Fund, the family will receive gift certificates at local Kroger stores for food and at Kmart stores for other necessities.
Last year, the fund helped 1,706 families - 9,242 individuals - over the holidays.
Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928.
