A Nevada man has been charged in the death of a Hephzibah man, who authorities say was killed during a Wednesday morning accident near Blythe.
Marvin Bishmond, 34, of Hephzibah, was killed in the accident after 7 a.m. Wednesday, said Richmond County Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen.
Ronald Broome, 55, of Virginia City, Nev., was charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree and failure to yield after stopping at a stop sign, said Richmond County sheriff's Deputy Robert Silas.
He said the accident happened at 6:57 a.m. at the intersection of Deans Bridge and Bath-Edie roads, about two miles east of Blythe.
Mr. Bishmond was traveling north in a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass on Deans Bridge Road when Mr. Broome, who was traveling west on Bath-Edie Road, struck the car with his 2002 GMC Sierra pickup as he tried to turn left onto Deans Bridge Road, Deputy Silas said.
Mr. Bishmond was pronounced dead at the scene, Mr. Bowen said. He said the victim's body will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
Deputy Silas said traffic was delayed for about an hour and a half after the accident, but the road had been cleared by midmorning.
Officials said Mr. Broome was held at the Richmond County jail on $5,000 bond as of Wednesday afternoon.
