GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Georgia Tech's Jarrett Jack, who led the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 start including two wins in the Preseason NIT, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball player of the week Monday.
The 6-foot-3 sophomore averaged 14.7 points and 10 assists in a 79-45 victory against Louisiana-Lafayette, a 75-56 victory against Hofstra and a 90-69 victory against Cornell.
The victories over Louisiana-Lafayette and Hofstra took the Yellow Jackets to the semifinals of the Preseason NIT.
In the three games, Jack shot 45.5 percent from 3-point range, while averaging 5.7 rebounds.
Virginia's Gary Forbes, who scored 21 points in his college debut, was named the ACC rookie of the week.
He helped the Cavaliers open the season with an 80-71 win over Mount St. Mary's.
The 6-6 freshman guard/forward had nine rebounds, three blocked shots, one assist and a steal. He was 8-of-13 from the floor in 35 minutes of play.
