Authorities arrested a Millen man over the weekend in connection with drug charges and an assault on police officers, according to the Georgia State Patrol's Sylvania post.
James Robert Pierce Jr., 21, of 4639 Harriet Miller Road, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, four counts of felony obstruction of a police officer, DUI and various traffic offenses, said Trooper Brian Scott of Post 21 in Sylvania.
On Saturday at 11:12 p.m., Mr. Pierce was stopped on Georgia Highway 121 in Millen for taillight and seat belt violations, which led to the inspection of his 2001 Chevy Malibu, Trooper Scott said.
After being removed from his car, Mr. Pierce argued and fought with three state troopers, Trooper Scott said.
"He became combative, ran, we caught him, wrestled him to the ground before we handcuffed him," Trooper Scott said.
Mr. Pierce was alone and didn't have any weapons, Trooper Scott said.
Police confiscated 2 ounces of marijuana and 14 plastic bags of marijuana with a street value of about $600, Trooper Scott said.
Mr. Pierce was on probation for previous police obstruction and drug charges, and he remained in the Jenkins County Jail without bond late Sunday, Trooper Scott said.
The Millen Police Department assisted troopers in the arrest.
