Mr. Elmer Watkins (STATESBORO, Ga.)



STATESBORO, Ga. - Elmer Edward Watkins, 88, entered into rest Saturday, September 27, 2003, at East Ga. Regional Hospital in Statesboro. Mr. Watkins was the widow of Vivian Dean Watkins. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at Liberty United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Hyder officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Watkins will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Mr. Watkins is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara W. and Lee Murphy of Augusta, Elaine W. and Dr. David Skeel of Destin, Fla. and Ann W. and David Perdue of Statesboro; seven grandchildren, Becky Farmer, Julie Kenny, Natalie Wilkes-Shaw, David Perdue, Kim Mitrook, Lee Perdue, Elmer Perdue and seven great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mattie Corrine Watkins preceded Mr. Watkins in death. Mr. Watkins was a lifetime resident of Augusta, prior to his living in Statesboro. He was retired from Piedmont Wood Preserving Company. In addition to his prior employment, he was a bailiff with the Richmond County Court System and served on the Augusta-Richmond County Committee for Good Government and was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. Mr. Watkins was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family and friends will surely miss him.
