Teenager on ATV is killed by deer

CHESTER - A weekend collision with a deer has killed a Chester High School student riding a four-wheeler.

Demetrius Douglas, 15, was driving the all-terrain vehicle, and his father, Andrew Douglas, was riding with him.

A deer jumped in front of them and knocked the teenager from the vehicle. Coroner Watson Wright said Demetrius - who was wearing a helmet and protective gear - died Sunday from head and internal injuries.

Teen is charged with killing VFW worker

GREENVILLE - Police arrested a Murrells Inlet teenager in connection with the beating death of a Laurens Veterans of Foreign Wars post canteen manager.

Arthur Jason Bowers, 17, was charged Sunday with killing James Bolt, 76. A warrant says Mr. Bolt was hit in the head and face with a blunt object Friday night at the VFW club.

Post Commander Wayne Kinard said up to $500 was taken from the club. A cash register was pried open and left on the floor, he said.

Officer kills man during domestic fight

IVA - A man who was involved in a domestic dispute was fatally shot by a police officer, Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said.

The man and his common-law wife were involved in a dispute Sunday, Mr. Shore said. The officer and the man, who has not been identified, got into a struggle, and the officer shot the man with his backup weapon, the coroner said.

Authorities refused to release the names of the family or the officer involved.

Police charge man with brother's killing

FLORENCE - A 19-year-old Florence man has been charged with murder after his brother was found shot to death.

Alexander McCall, 18, died at his home just after midnight Sunday after he was shot in the head, said Florence County Coroner M.G. "Bubba" Matthews. An autopsy has been scheduled, Mr. Matthews said.

Frederick McCall was arrested shortly after the shooting for questioning and was later charged, police Maj. Carlos Raines said.
